Ø NYSAAE

· RJ attended a workshop on new HS Arts Assessment for Theatre Arts

· Designed to be given at end of mandatory one arts credit for HS

· Theatre Arts

Þ Has to be taught by a “certified” Theatre Arts teacher

Þ Loop-hole – teachers can teach one class out of their certification

Þ In order for student to take assessment, must have completed a theatre course eligible for credit (approved by State Ed.)

Þ Must be submitted by April 1^st to be offered by your district in Sept.

Þ Model in development now

Þ If you have people interested in developing a course, NYSUT website www.nysut.org has an Arts Resource guide

Þ Ed M. from State Ed. has form to be submitted to get course approved

Þ Needs to be comprehensive & address all T.A. standards

Þ Assessments are voluntary at this point

Þ Gail Nelli – presented at the NYSAAE workshop

· Teaches in rural Alexander CSD (GV BOCES)

· Has developed a complete T.A. major

· Starting to develop a fine arts regents

· Dance assessment workshop

· RJ will see about getting on RIC Agenda to present assessments to them

· Discussion followed

· NYU offers Theatre Ed. Certification

· SUNY Fredonia, SUNY New Palz and Ithaca College are close to offering it
